TRAILS END
A humane alternative to auction/slaughter
Whispering Winds Equine Rescue is pleased to announce their joint efforts with Front Range Equine Rescue in announcing its newest program to help combat the numbers of horses ending up at slaughter in the U.S., Canada or Mexico
In 2005, over 94,000 horses went to slaughter
In 2006, over 100,000 horses went to slaughter
Less than 6% of the horses were considered old, sick, crippled or ill-tempered according to the Grandin Study
Over 92% of slaughtered horses are reported to be in “good condition” according to Dept. of Agriculture statistics
Trails End is designed to prevent horse owners from taking their older, sick, or crippled horses to auction or a kill buyer by offering a 50% reimbursement for the expense of humane euthanasia (and carcass disposal)
To apply, submit copies of vet receipt indicating cost for euthanasia and receipt for carcass disposal if applicable
Program applies to all equines, including burros and donkeys.
