This is why we do what we do...

Both of these youngsters were born to slaughter-bound wild mares that were rescued from the feedlot in Nevada.  Can you imagine?

Storm (the bigger guy) was born on our ranch April 20th; Brian was born on Sunday, May 18th.  Mom's stand vigilant over their afternoon naps

Meet our newest
 - Zip Bar Ron (aka Ronko)

Born August 11th

Ronko

Zip Bar Ron (Ronko)

Born with severely knocked knees we were concerned about Ronko.  But, within a week his legs were straight and he was running and playing with the other two boys.

At 3 weeks old Ronko is eating grain and hay right along with mom.

This past week he had his great adventure out to meet some of the other horses.  But, his "nanny" Zena wouldn't let him far from her sight and stayed close to him & mom to run interferrence - just in case.

Meet MarsyMarsy
Marsy and her brother, Racer (below) were abandoned at a local farm near us.  The farm owners, unable to keep the pair, contacted us for assistance.

Marsy is a gorgeous 16 year old Morgan mare that stands 15.3 hands.  She was a little hard to catch and somewhat untrusting when we first met her.  But, shortly after arriving at the ranch she was leading like a dream, easy to handle, gave me her feet, and loved the carrot treats she got.

After some adjustment and time to settle we will put a saddle on her and see what she can do.  She's been used for trail riding but hasn't been handled for a while.
Meet Racer
This is a super sweet 18 year old Morgan gelding that stands Marsy15.2 hands.  Racer has a lot of good ground manners, walked into the trailer without a problem, and appears to be broke to ride just like his sister.

Racer will also be available after evaluation and time to settle.

Both of these guys are going to need to be vet checked, get their shots, have their feet done and teeth floated.  All scheduled to be done within the next couple of weeks.

Our Organization
Currently we have 23 wild horses from Nevada, Utah and Oregon that call the 156 acres at Whispering Winds home. These are horses that have been gathered and gone through the adoption process but have not been able to adjust to a domestic lifestyle due to their fight or flight instincts. We have offered these horses a forever home environment where they have joined up into family bands and roam free, as they once did.

Additionally, we have 13 domestic rescue horses that have either gone through rehabilitation and are available for adoption, or will live their lives out at the ranch where they will be monitored and cared for.  You can view these horses here

Once in a while a horse comes along that leaves you in awe.  Casper has been such a horse.  Knowing I didn't have much time to work with outside horses and take on any new clients I was unsure when I agreed to bring Casper & Bucky in for training for a new, first time adopter.  But, the reward has been a true affirmation as to why I love the mustangs so much.  Read about our journey here...

BLM TO KILL 30,000 HORSES

Despite the massive cleansing campaign over the last several years, BLM continues to report 33,000 wild horses and burros still roam public lands. However, independent analysis utilizing BLMs own statistics and methods of annual population reports, removals and reproductive rates concluded the most likely wild populations still remaining is merely 13,500 wild horses and burros - 20,000 less than BLM reported.

Wild Horse & Burro Protection
A measure to protect wild horses and burros from being sold for slaughter was introduced on the second day of the new 110th Congress by House Natural Resources Chairman Nick Rahall (D-WV) and Representative Ed Whitfield (R-KY). H.R. 249, which was first introduced in the last session to repeal the 2004 “Burns rider,” would restore the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act to its original language.  Background

The Meaning of Rescue

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,

All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.

I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget.

There's so much to carry, so much to regret.

Yes, there it is, right on the top,

Let's unpack loneliness, heartache and loss.

And there by my feeder hides fear and shame.

As I look on these things I tried hard to leave,

I still have to unpack my baggage called pain.

I loved them, the others, the one's who left me,

But I wasn't good enough, for they didn't want me.

Will you add to my baggage, or help me unpack?

Will you look at my things and take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage, to never repack?
I pray that you do, I'm so tired you see,
but I do come with baggage, will you still want me?
