The Angel Program has been established to help horses in need by assisting
us in our mission of helping horses. Horses come from auctions, kill buyers,
brokers, law enforcement seizures, some have been abandoned, and some come
from owners that no longer want them or can no longer care for them.
Often, a rescue organization has to pay to get the horse out of its
desprate situation and then pay to transport the horse to their location.
This alone is costly. These horses have likely been neglected and/or abused
and once they are safe, they are in dire need of vet, farrier, and dental
care which is also costly. Then come the expenses that come with every
horse; feed, supplements, vet bills, chiropractic, wormers, etc. The
rehabilitation costs for most of these horses is high - diagnostic testing,
training, etc.
To give an idea of what things cost:
Bale of hay: $5-$8
Bag of grain: $12 average
Supplements: $45/mth
Wormer: $7 - $12 Farrier Trim (no shoes): $25
Winter blanket: $75
Dental visit (to float teeth): $65 - $100
Chiropractic/Acupuncture treatment: $125
These horses need, and deserve, caring people to help them. The Angel
Program is an effective way for you to do this. Maybe you would like a horse
of your own but do not have the facilities, time, or money necessary to own
your own horse. This program gives you the opportunity to become involved in
a particular horses' life and have a direct impact on that horse. You only
need to commit your heart to one, or more, of these horses in need or to our
rescue. Won't you please consider being an angel?
We've tried to make this easier for angels by setting up a way to
automatically make monthly donations via our "paypal", if you
choose.
Please take the time to view our horses below to see which of our horses
have angels and which need an angel. Any horse can have more than one angel!
If you'd like to be an angel, please send us an email at
whisperingwindsequinerescue@msn.com. If you sign up to be an horse
angel, you will receive frequent emails updating you about your horse,
pictures, and have your name listed on our site (with permission) as that
horse's angel. Just click on the button for the amount you would
like to donate.
Additionally, Sponsorship horses are also available for adoption. All
potential adopters must fill out an application, submit to a background &
facility check, be approved and willing to adhere to specific care needs for
the adopted horse. No horse will be euthanized without notifying WWER,
and only due to quality of life.
On behalf of the horses, thank you.

2 yr old Thoroughbred gelding Charlie arrived at our rescue with his "brother" Eddie. Both were in extremely poor condition and about 400 lbs underweight. Charlie has a turned out shoulder and dropped pasterns making him unsound. Today both boys are over 16 hands tall, love attention, and enjoy life roaming with their "family". Charlie is a permanent resident at our ranch.

23 yr old Registered Quarter Horse gelding Pawnee was relinquished to us with what was believed to be a history of navicular. We did corrective trims on him to help him along. But, when the lameness got too bad we took him to a hoof specialist that found Pawnee had a tumor on his coffin bone. This has been surgically removed leaving Pawnee more sound. He can be ridden lightly and, due to his softness, is used to teach children. Pawnee is a permanent resident at our ranch.

Her joints are fused but she is not able to be ridden. She does well on flat ground just roaming and grazng with her "family," but severely limps if she runs or becomes too active. 31 yr old Arab gelding Srigo is currently our oldest resident. He joined the family at WWER in 2007 after his owner died. Srigo has suffered a couple small strokes since arriving here, but it has not stopped him from enjoying life. He is Carson's mentor & "grandpa" and roams the property with his girlfriend, Emma, as he pleases. From time to time you can catch Srigo cantering across the property as he enjoys the day. Srigo is a permanent resident at our ranch.
