Become a Horse Angel

The Angel Program has been established to help horses in need by assisting us in our mission of helping horses. Horses come from auctions, kill buyers, brokers, law enforcement seizures, some have been abandoned, and some come from owners that no longer want them or can no longer care for them.

Often, a rescue organization has to pay to get the horse out of its desperate situation and then pay to transport the horse to their location. This alone is costly. These horses have likely been neglected and/or abused and once they are safe, they are in dire need of vet, farrier, and dental care which is also costly. Then come the expenses that come with every horse; feed, supplements, vet bills, chiropractic, wormers, etc. The rehabilitation costs for most of these horses is high - diagnostic testing, training, etc.

To give an idea of what things cost:

Bale of hay: $5-$8
Bag of grain: $12 average

Supplements: $45/mth

Wormer: $7

Farrier Trim (no shoes): $25

Winter blanket:  $75

Dental visit (to float teeth): $65 - $100
Chiropractic/Acupuncture treatment: $125

These horses need, and deserve, caring people to help them. The Angel Program is an effective way for you to do this. Maybe you would like a horse of your own but do not have the facilities, time, or money necessary to own your own horse. This program gives you the opportunity to become involved in a particular horses' life and have a direct impact on that horse. You only need to commit your heart to one, or more, of these horses in need or to our rescue. Won't you please consider being an angel?  We've tried to make this easier for angels by setting up a way to automatically make monthly donations via our "paypal", if you choose.

Please take the time to view our horses below to see which of our horses have angels and which need an angel. Any horse can have more than one angel!
If you'd like to be an angel, please send us an email at whisperingwindsequinerescue@msn.com.  If you sign up to be an horse angel, you will receive frequent emails updating you about your horse, pictures, and have your name listed on our site (with permission) as that horse's angel.   Just click on the button for the amount you would like to donate.

Additionally, Sponsorship horses are also available for adoption.  All potential adopters must fill out an application, submit to a background & facility check, be approved and willing to adhere to specific care needs for the adopted horse.  No horse will be euthanized without notifying WWER, and only due to quality of life.

On behalf of the horses, thank you.

Charlie

2 yr old Thoroughbred gelding
Charlie arrived at our rescue with his "brother" Eddie. Both were in extremely poor condition and about 400 lbs underweight. Charlie has a turned out shoulder and dropped pasterns making him unsound. Today both boys are over 16 hands tall, love attention, and enjoy life roaming with their "family". Charlie is a permanent resident at our ranch.

Eddie

2 yr old Thoroughbred gelding
Eddie arrived at our rescue with his "brother" Charlie. Both were in extremely poor condition and about 400 lbs underweight. Eddie has dropped pasterns making him unsound, but that doesn't stop him from running and bucking on crisp clear mornings with the other horses in his family. Eddie is a permanent resident at our ranch.

Cremcheck (aka Sunny)

19 yr old Registered Thoroughbred mare
After making very little money on the race track, Sunny was sent to a feedlot and headed to slaughter when she was rescued by a wonderful woman who saw a horse willing to live underneath the manure packed coat, dull eyes, and open wounds. Unfortunately, this kind hearted woman fell on hard times herself and asked us if we could open a spot for her at our facility. Sunny loved Slew, but he was placed in a different facility. Sunny has had a little bit of a hard time readjusting, but has taken her place in with the other domestics where she is slowly starting to bond with a few. Sunny is a permanent resident at our ranch.

Pawnee

23 yr old Registered Quarter Horse gelding
Pawnee was relinquished to us with what was believed to be a history of navicular. We did corrective trims on him to help him along. But, when the lameness got too bad we took him to a hoof specialist that found Pawnee had a tumor on his coffin bone. This has been surgically removed leaving Pawnee more sound. He can be ridden lightly and, due to his softness, is used to teach children. Pawnee is a permanent resident at our ranch.

DB

15-18 yr old Quarter Horse mare
This sweet girl was abandoned and came to WWER in 2006. A huge scar across her nose and very crooked teeth represent possible severe abuse. DB is very quiet, won't fight for her food, and grazes alone but close to the herd. She allows us to approach and love on her in the open but panics in a pen. DB is a permanent resident at our ranch

Lady

8 yr old Registered Quarter Horse mare.
Lady is completely broke to ride and very gentle. But, due to hard riding when she was young, Lady ended up with ringbone. Her joints are fused but she is not able to be ridden. She does well on flat ground just roaming and grazng with her "family," but severely limps if she runs or becomes too active. Lady is retired and is a permanent resident at our rescue.

Srigo

31 yr old Arab gelding
Srigo is currently our oldest resident. He joined the family at WWER in 2007 after his owner died. Srigo has suffered a couple small strokes since arriving here, but it has not stopped him from enjoying life. He is Carson's mentor & "grandpa" and roams the property with his girlfriend, Emma, as he pleases. From time to time you can catch Srigo cantering across the property as he enjoys the day. Srigo is a permanent resident at our ranch.

Emma

20+ yr old Arab mare
Emma was relinquished to WWER by her owner who was feeling hard times due to economic status. Emma had been used as a 4H horse and is now retired and is a permanent resident
She, along with Srigo, have raised Carson - our orphaned foal

Sasha

20ish Arab Mare
Sasha is a slaughter-bound mare that arrived at our rescue in 2007. She has a large knee, due to arthritis, which makes roaming with the other horses to graze difficult. She has become close friends with Granny, a fertility study mare, and the 2 share an oversized stall. Sasha is on supplements to help her with her arthritis, along with special grains to help her maintain weight. Sasha is a permanent resident at our ranch.

Neke

5-6 yr old Sheldon mustang mare
Part of a joint rescue, Neke came to WWER in foal. After being adopted out twice, unsuccessfully, Neke will remain a permanent resident at our ranch. She is a very sweet mare that loves attention, is easy to handle, and enjoys being part of a family band with the other mustangs that roam the ranch.

Lady Spirit

15 yr old Mustang mare from Beatty's Butte HMA in Oregon
I was assisting at a BLM adoption when Lady came through the loading chutes. Wranglers were separating the horses by age/sex, and as Lady was running hard to stay up the gate slammed, knocking the wind out of her, sending her backwards, and I could hear the crack from across the room. My heart went out to her. I watched the bidding over the next 2 days and Lady was never adopted. Being a "Sale Authority" mare I knew her destination after this adoption and made arrangements to adopt her. As we unloaded her at our ranch I made her a promise that she would spend her coming years just being a horse, no demands. If an emergency arises we are able to get Lady into a chute & halter her to care for her. But, other than that she roams the 150+ acres enjoying life with her family band. Lady is a definite permanent resident at our ranch..

Moon

15 yr old Mustang mare
Moon was gathered from the Nevada plains in 1994, adopted out, and was sent to slaughter in 2007. At the time she was rescued off the feedlot she was very much in foal. Moon's owner relinquished her to WWER, where she is a permanent resident

Jenkins

14 yr old Mustang Gelding
Jenkins is from the Three Fingers HMA in Oregon. His owner sent him to the feedlot where we were able to pay his bail and rescue him the night before the slaughter truck arrived. Jenkins was captured as a foal and sustained some kind of trauma to his right eye that resulted in a rupture. Although he still can see out of it, the eye is cloudy. Because of his history, Jenkins is a permanent resident at WWER

Loki

9 yr old Mustang mare
Loki is from the Warms Springs HMA. She has a high flight risk and bolts when ridden. Because of this Loki's owner relinquished her to WWER, where she is a permanent resident

Zena

10 yr old Mustang mare
Zena came to WWER when her owner did not have time to work with her and she had stood around for a couple years. In less that 6 weeks we had Zena halter broke, leading easily, standing for farrier, loading in a trailer, and bathing. However, after completing all of her ground work, where she responded willingly, Zena blew up under saddle. Her high fear, high flight temperament resulted in moving Zena to sanctuary where she is a permanent resident.
